On this, the first Sunday of the month, a priest is available in the Angel Chapel after Mass for unction and healing. Please form a line outside the chapel, entering one at a time in order to provide privacy when advising the priest of your specific prayer requests.
The loose plate offering today goes to the rector’s discretionary fund. Please be generous.
Today is the tenth anniversary of Fr. Sloane’s installation as Rector of St. Paul’s. The Parish will mark that occasion at the coffee hours following the 9:00 AM and 11:15 AM Masses.
EPISCOPAL SENIOR MINISTRIES SUNDAY: Today has been designated as Episcopal Senior Ministries Sunday. Parishes are asked to pray for all seniors and their ministries in the church, including Cedar Lane Apartments, Christian Communities Group Homes, Collington Life Care Community, Episcopal Senior Ministries, ESM Cares Geriatric Care Management Service, The Fellowship of St. John, Friendship Terrace Retirement Community, St. Anna’s Fund, St. Mary’s Court, and St. Philip’s House and Senior Van.
The altar flowers today are given by Mr. & Mrs. Matthew Welch to the greater glory of God and in thanksgiving of their wedding yesterday, May 2; and with love and gratitude by St. Paul’s parishioners to the greater glory of God and in thanksgiving for Fr. Sloane’s ten years of ministry among us as Rector of this Parish.
Carpe Deum, the group for St. Paul’s parishioners and friends in their 20s and 30s, will meet tonight after Evensong and Benediction at the back of the church and head out to a local pub for drinks. Join us and bring a friend!
A solo organ recording will be taking place in the Church Monday through Friday. Masses are, of course, as usual but please refrain from entering the church during the recordings. Also, please do not move any of the microphones being used for the recordings. Thank you.
Nominations for the Vestry will be closed at the end of business Monday, May 5, 2008.
Rebel, Radical, Revolutionary, or just another ‘nice man’? Trinity Foundation for Christianity and Culture (TFCC) is presenting a seminar on the life of Jesus continuing over the next three successive Monday evenings. These interactive sessions begin at 6:30 PM in the Guild Room following the evening Mass and will conclude with Compline at 8:00 PM. Discussions will be led by Linda Wilkinson, Peter Laugesen, Ed Loucks and Ann Korky. ● May 5: THE KINGDOM OF GOD Consider what we should know about the Kingdom of God and how we can learn more. Examine Jesus’ role as the archetype – the perfect human and the ambassador of God’s Kingdom. ● May 12: THE PERSON AND THE BOOK Who or what is the ultimate authority for Christians – Jesus or the Bible? Address the challenges in being in a living, loving relationship with a person – Jesus ● May 19: THE GIFT OF THE HOLY SPIRIT Re-examine the Holy Spirit and bring new light to the role of the Holy Spirit in the life of Jesus and in our lives.

Children's Formation: As usual, our final meeting for the Catechesis of the Good Shepherd (CGS) program of this school year will be on the day of Pentecost (Sunday, May 11, 2008). All the children from grades Pre-K to 5 will come together in the lower level for our annual Pentecost celebration. Other family members and interested visitors are welcome to join us immediately following the 9:00 AM Mass. Diocesan Young Adult Retreat: The Cathedral College and the diocesan Young Adult Ministries Network are co-sponsoring the third in a series of retreats for people in their 20s and 30s. "Connecting to the Spirit" will take place on Pentecost week-end, May 9 and 10 at the Cathedral College. Retreat participants will learn several Christian prayer practices for everyday spirituality. The retreat leaders are a married clergy couple in their early 30s. The Rev. Megan Stewart-Sicking serves as Associate Rector at the Church of the Good Shepherd in Burke, Virginia. The Rev. Dr. Joseph Stewart-Sicking is Assistant Professor of Pastoral Counseling and Spiritual Care at Loyola College in Maryland. All are invited to attend a special discussion, featuring The Rev. Carlos Exposito, a priest from Cuba, on Tuesday, May 13, 6:30-8:30 PM, at Church of the Ascension, 633 Sligo Avenue, Silver Spring MD. Father Carlos has been invited to share his story of life in a small Cuban Episcopal Church and the story of the growth of churches in Cuba during the last ten years. The discussion will be proceeded by a simple potluck supper. No RSVP is necessary, but we ask that if you attend, that you bring an appetizer, dish, or dessert to share with others. Fidelitas, the group for newly or nearly married couples at St. Paul's, will meet on Thursday, May 15 at 6:30 PM in the Dining Hall in Pillsbury House. St. Paul's parishioner, Chris Wright, a seminar leader and licensed marriage & family therapist, will discuss the elements of a "sacred relationship" -- an orientation that solidifies the relationship and enables both persons to feel honored, responded to, and fulfilled in the thick & thin of the relationship. The Society of Mary will host an introduction to devotions to Our Lady on Saturday, May 17, at 10:00 AM in the Guild Room. Join us if you’ve ever wondered: How do I use the rosary? What are the prayers and what do they mean? Is there any variation? After the discussion, we will return to the Lady Altar to pray the rosary. Refreshments will be provided. Christine Parke Cornelius and Sverrir Gunnarsson Tomasson, whom God hath brought together, joyfully WELCOMES the St. Paul’s Parish family to celebrate with them the administration of God’s Holy Sacrament of Marriage on Saturday, May 17th. The Solemn Nuptial Mass begins at 3:00 PM. The couple humbly seeks prayers from the parish of thanksgiving and grace, and in accordance with the faith, prays especially to abide in the way of God and in their covenant with one another.
The Annual Meeting of the parish is Wednesday, June 4. Mass will be at 6:00 PM and the meeting called to order in the church at 6.30 PM, appointments made and the first ballot cast. We will then adjourn to the dining hall for a pot luck supper (note: please bring a dish to share). The meeting will resume before dessert. (Registration for the meeting for those entitled to vote will be held in the Common Room 5:00 – 6:00 PM, and 6:30 – 7:00 PM.) The first ballot will remain open until 7:00 PM, when it will be promptly closed.
Pilgrims in Christ Ten Year Reunion Party: All Pilgrims in Christ from 1998 through 2008 are invited to attend to a reunion and party on Saturday, June 28 at 11:00 AM. Fr. Sloane leaves for London this afternoon, returning on May 14 He will attend the meeting of the Chapter of Guardians at the Shrine of Our Lady of Walsingham this week, and preach at St. Paul’s, Knightsbridge next Sunday.
Our prayerful condolences go to Lynne Walker on the death of her mother the week before last. There will be a funeral Mass here at St. Paul’s on Tuesday, May 13 at 11:00 AM prior to burial at Arlington National Cemetery.
Our parishioner James Holt died suddenly while on business travel last weekend. A Solemn Mass of Resurrection will be held here at St. Paul’s on Saturday, May 24 at 2:00 P.M.
